| The Globe hosts many events through the year from beer festivals to charity fundraising quiz nights and a number of regular weekly evening events.We also have a separate function room at the rear of the pub which is available for private functions and meetings. Please contact Mo for details on the use of the room. Upcoming Events WINTER BEER FESTIVAL 26th - 29th JANUARY 2012 Be still my beating heart! Coming up for your delectation and delight is a winter beer festival in celebration of the wonderful array of cockle warming and cold banishing Winter Beers just what is needed to drive away the wind and snow lashing outside. We shall have 28 wintery beers on as well as ciders and perry. Expect big bold ruby reds, treacle black stouts, velvety porters and rich chestnut bitters full of warming spices, fruit in abundance and plenty of flavour. TASTING NOTES HERE Regular Events Monday Depending on the season Monday nights are the night for the traditional pub games of Crib or Dominoes – All details for these can be found on the pub noticeboard. Tuesday On Tuesday nights the back room plays host to the Globe Acoustic Session. The session has been running for around 5 years and attracts local musicians playing all styles from blues to folk to contemporary. All music is unplugged and anyone is welcome to join in – more often than not in a rousing chorus at the end of the night with our resident shanty-man! The session runs from 8.30pm until closing. Wednesday Wednesday night at the Globe is Poker Night, run by GB Poker – newcomers welcome. Sunday Pop in for a Sunday pint and you will be treated to a selection of hearty, locally made bar snacks – We have delicious hot roast potatoes on the bar, cheese, pickles and handmade seasonal speciality bread for you to enjoy alongside the fine ales on offer. Golf Society The Globe has a Golf Society who regularly meet up and play at different courses throughout the year. Please see the pub noticeboard for further details. New members welcome. PREVIOUS EVENTS THE 1st GLOBE BEER FESTIVAL This was held from Thursday 9th March to Sunday 12th March 2006 The festival was a huge success with over 48 9 gallon firkins of beer sold in 3 days. The festival beer which consisted of 30 firkins (see below) pluss perry and cider was all sold by the Saturday evening! Click HERE for some photos. THE 2nd GLOBE BEER FESTIVAL To celebrate our first year of operation we held a Beer Festival from Thursday 19th October through to Sunday 22nd October. This time, in addition to our normal 13 handpumps we had 40 festival beers plus cider and perry. All these beers were sold by the Sunday Night. It was another Great Success!! THE 3RD GLOBE BEER FESTIVALOur 3rd beer festival was held from Thursday 29th March through till Sunday 1st April. We had 50 Beers and Ciders available and we sold all by the Sunday. Once again it was a huge success. THE 4TH GLOBE BEER FESTIVAL Our 4th beer festival was held from Thursday 7th November 2007 through till Sunday 10th Vovember. We had 50 Beers and Ciders available and we sold all by the Sunday. Once again it was a huge success. THE 11th GLOBE BEER FESTIVAL Our 11th beer festival ran from Thursday 26th May 2011 through till Sunday 29th May 2011 and was a great success. Charity Pub Quiz Time to dredge up that wealth of trivia and obscure knowledge and get the Encyclopaedia Britannica memorised! On Wednesday the 7th December we are having a charity Pub Quiz in aid of Glenwood School with prizes for the winning teams. It is £5 a team to enter with no more than 5 people in a team – bring your brainiest friends! The Quiz was a resounding success and we would like to extend out thanks to Superdrug who donated prizes and a big 'Well Done' to all who came along, took part and made this event a great success and enjoyable evening. Brafont Guizers Mummers Play On Tuesday 20th December as part of our Acoustic Music Session we will be having a seasonal visit from the players of Brafont Guizers, affiliated to Redbornstoke Morris, who will be perfoming a short traditional mummers play. A vibrant and humourous English tradition this will be a fantastic way to get into the Christmas spirit! Charity Carol Signing in aid of Glenwood School From 7pm until 9pm on Friday 16th December we will be holding a charity carol signing and the charity fundraiser cheque handover – there will be carol signing and festive music from some of our Tuesday night musicians and lashings of mulled wine. Just the thing to get you in the festive spirit and ready for the big day itself.
